Ingredients

marinade

  • 1 tablespoon char siu sauce (Chinese bbq sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon mirin
  • ½ tablespoon neutral oil avocado or vegetable oil

bake fish

  • 1 pound chilean sea bass or fish of choice
  • honey brush on top
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional) add at the end

Instructions

  • Make marinade by mixing 1 tablespoons char siu sauce with 1 tbs soy sauce, 1 teaspoon oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon honey, ½ teaspoon sugar, ½ teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon mirin.
  • Pat fish dry with a paper towel and add marinade to both sides of the fish. If you want to make this quick, marinate the sea bass for 15-30 minutes before baking. If you have more time, I recommend to marinate overnight for a deeper flavor.
  • Top the fish with ½ tablespoon oil.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line baking pan with parchment paper. Add marinated sea bass on the parchment paper. Bake marinated fish for 10 minutes.
  • Take out fish from your oven and turn your oven to 475 degrees Fahrenheit or on 'broil' setting.
  • While the oven is heating up, brush honey on all sides of the sea bass. Then return to oven to bake at 475 for 3-5 more minutes or until golden at the top. This step is to brown the top and caramelize the honey!
  • When its done, plate the honey glazed chilean sea bass and pour 1 teaspoon soy sauce on top before eating! Enjoy while hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute the fish with salmon, halibut or fish of your choice. The marinade goes well with all types of fish!
  • Before you bake the Chilean sea bass, take it out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for at least 20 minutes before cooking it. If the fish is too cold, the center of the fish may become uncooked.
Air-Fryer Directions
    • Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F and line the bottom with parchment paper.
    • Add the marinated fish on top of the parchment paper and cook for 8-10 minutes.
    • After 8-10 minutes of cooking, brush some honey on top of the fish.
    • Turn the air fryer temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and cook for 2-3 minutes and the top is crispy and golden brown. To ensure the fish is cooked, you can check if the internal temperature is at 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
