Salted Egg Fried Chicken Wings

Salted Egg Fried Chicken Wings

The salted egg fried chicken recipe is adapted from Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine. The sauce is made from salted duck egg yolks. Coating the fried chicken in a buttery and salted egg sauce creates an umami and savory wing!

Salted egg is usually eaten with white rice due to its salty and savory flavor. So make sure you can eat this dish with some white rice. Try this salted egg fried chicken wing recipe for amazing flavor and a super delicious crunch (from double-frying the wings)!

salted egg fried chicken wings

Ingredients you need for your salted egg fried chicken wings:

  • Chicken wings
  • cooking wine
  • soy sauce
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • chinese 5 spice
  • ginger
  • oil
  • eggs
  • corn starch
  • salted duck egg yolk (yolk only, no egg white)
  • oyster sauce
  • garlic
  • Sugar
  • shallot
  • butter

Steps to make the salted egg fried chicken wings:

  • Step 1. Marinade chicken wings in 1.5 tablespoons cooking wine, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 tsp salt, ¼ pepper, ½ tsp Chinese 5 spice, and ½ tbs ginger for 30 minutes.
  • Step 2. Beat 2 eggs and add a pinch of salt in a bowl. Place 1 cup cornstarch on a plate. Dip wings in cornstarch, then egg, then in cornstarch again. Leave wings on the plate for 15 minutes before frying to ensure batter will stick on the wings when frying.
  • Step 3. Heat 3 cups of oil to 350F in a pot (medium heat). To check if the oil is hot enough, add a little cornstarch and see if the cornstarch starts to bubble. If yes, then fry wings for roughly 7 minutes (they will be a light blonde color). Cooking Tip: Make sure that you don’t overcrowd the wings. This will result in a soggy and oily wing. After frying, place on a wire rack or on top of paper towels.
  • Step 4. Heat oil to 400F (medium-high heat). Fry the wings again until they turn golden brown for 2-3 minutes. Place on a wire rack or on top of paper towels.
  • Step 5. To make the sauce, start by cutting the salted duck eggs in half and scoop out the egg yolks. Then mix the egg yolks with 2 cloves of minced garlic, ½ teaspoon sugar, and 1 teaspoon oyster sauce.
  • Step 6. In a pan, heat up 1 tablespoon of butter and saute minced shallots for 1-2 minutes. Then add the egg yolk mixture and fry for 2 minutes. Add wings in the pan and coat the wings with egg yolk sauce.

My new favorite soup right now 😍Here’s a supe My new favorite soup right now 😍Here’s a super easy and not traditional Korean ox bone soup aka Seolleongtang 설렁탕 🥰 Super hot bone broth is topped with beautifully marbled beef, Chinese chives, green onions, and some salt and pepper to taste. Add some Korean kimchi radish and it’s chef’s kiss!

See blog post for more detail on the ingredients (like which bone broth I bought) and full recipe ◡̈ You gotta use somen noodles for this recipe. It only takes 3 minutes to make. Tip: boil noodles at the same time as the broth to make cooking fast🍜

Wishing you luck, health and prosperity with this Wishing you luck, health and prosperity with this turnip cake recipe aka loh bok go in cantonese. Gung Hey Fat Choy ([恭喜发财] my dumplings! PS. I don’t recommend saying lai see dou loi unless you’re very close to that relative or you are a young child lol

Full recipe is linked in bio or find on my bloggg 🧧🐰

I finally finished testing out this recipe (it’s beeen a few months haha)! I was struggling with the texture for a little while. Now, the recipe is good to go ◡̈  The flavor is very savory from the chinese sausage and cured pork belly (made from my dad!) and also sweet from the radish. The texture is firm but not too doughy because I loaded this up with lots and lots of radish. You will never find a restaurant that has as much radish as this homemade recipe. Lastly, I pan fried the turnip cake to give it a nice crisp at the end.

Don’t forget Chinese New Year is celebrated on the eve (21st of January!) so have a nice dinner with your family on Saturday. Then my mom told me to not clean or do any labor on actual Chinese New Years Day (22nd of January). Wishing all you dumplings good health and wealth in the upcoming year.

This egg drop soup is inspired by my parent’s Ch This egg drop soup is inspired by my parent’s Chinese restaurant 😋Silken tofu is cooked in a sweet chicken broth and cornstarch slurry is added to thicken the soup as well as make the smooth & thick texture.

Some Cantonese restaurants serve this with real crab meat (highly recommend if you have this!) and the color is on the whiter end (hence why we’re using egg whites!). However, if you want to use the whole egg, feel free to use it! The egg yolk makes the soup more yellow and creamy.

You can google ‘cook with dana egg drop soup’ for full recipe or find it in my link in bio! Hope you have a wonderful week my dumplings and can’t wait to show you my Chinese New Year recipes!

Fridge clean out time! 🙃 Crab jeon (omelette) o Fridge clean out time! 🙃 Crab jeon (omelette) or korean seafood pancake is a great recipe to use all your leftover ingredients in the fridge. For groceries, I always use the ‘first in, first out’ method meaning the older groceries need to be used before eating the new stuff. I’m chopping up leftover vegetables and onions in small pieces and mixing them together with imitation crab. The pancake may taste different depending on what ingredients you have but once you mix it with eggs and some flour (especially korean pancake mix!), it will taste scrumptious in it’s own unique way.

The next time you stock up, make sure to keep some type of seafood in the freezer at all times. For me, I tend to buy extra imitation crab and shrimp. Then you will always have good staples to make with your leftover ingredients.

Check link in bio for recipe or google ‘crab jeon dana’ to find full recipe and directions ◡̈ Stay dry california dumplings, there’s lots of rain here haha.

My uncle taught me how to make braised pork over r My uncle taught me how to make braised pork over rice! This dish tastes sweet and savory (similar to teriyaki) which goes so well with rice. The recipe is inspired by Japanese soboro don which is served with scrambled egg, but I think it also reminds me of the Taiwanese dish, Lu rou fan. We cook the ground pork down in some beer to make the meat taste sweeter as well as cut down on the gaminess.

Don’t forget to serve with hot white rice and a sunny side egg to complete the meal. I was intensely writing down the ingredients and instructions so you can make it at home 😉❤️Check it out in my link in bio or google ‘braised pork rice dana’ 🍚

You’re about to eat 2 bowls of rice with this ea You’re about to eat 2 bowls of rice with this easy and delicious mapo tofu! This is spicy, flavorful and a little tingly from the peppercorn oil. This is not an authentic replica of the sichuan mapo tofu but it’s very close. I would say the dish is a combo of sichuan and cantonese flavors 😍
My uncle taught me how to make this and it’s one of my favorite recipes to cook when I don’t have a lot of ingredients in the fridge. Also eating spicy and hot foods when it’s cold outside always makes me happy for some reason. Check full recipe in the blog or link in bio 🥵❤️‍🔥🌶

Sorry y’all for the lighting in the video. It’s cold and gloomy here in California. Hopefully weather gets better and we can have some golden ☀️ shots! Love you all and stay warm dumplings.
