Turkish Style Eggs in Garlic Yogurt Sauce

December 19, 2022

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

These Turkish style eggs in garlic yogurt is inspired by the Turkish dish called Çılbır, which are usually made with poached eggs. In my recipe, I use soft boiled eggs (I love the jammy egg texture!) and the dish is topped with a red pepper infused butter sauce. Toasted warm bread is used to dip and soak up the yummy garlic yogurt sauce with freshly picked dill.

How to Make Perfect Soft Boiled Eggs

The perfect jammy eggs make this recipe super delicious. Follow my tips for the perfect soft-boiled egg:

  • Buy high quality pasteurized eggs for fresh and delicious taste. Sometimes the yolk is orange and beautiful but also these types of eggs are safer to consume raw.
  • While you wait for the water to boil in your pot, temper your eggs. After taking your eggs out of the refrigerator place them in a warm bowl of water. This helps bring your eggs to room temperature which helps with even cooking and prevents the egg shells from cracking and leaking.
  • Place eggs in the pot when the water is boiling! Boiling is when you see the large bubbles form in the water (not small bubbles).
  • VERY IMPORTANT: Set a timer for 7 minutes. Do 6 minutes if you like the eggs more runny.
  • Place eggs in an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Also, this makes the eggshell peeling process very easy.

INGREDIENTS YOU NEED FOR YOUR TURKISH STYLE EGGS IN GARLIC YOGURT SAUCE:

garlic yogurt:

  • 1 cup yogurt – use whole milk for extra creaminess!
  • 2 tablespoon ricotta (optional) – this makes the garlic yogurt sauce extra creamy
  • 1 garlic, grated
  • salt and pepper, to taste

butter sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

assemble:

  • garlic yogurt
  • butter sauce
  • 3-4 eggs (soft-boiled) – use high quality pasteurized eggs for this
  • fresh dill, for garnish
  • sliced bread, toasted to serve

STEPS TO MAKE THE ONE POT TURKISH STYLE EGGS IN GARLIC YOGURT SAUCE:

  • Step 1. Heat water in the pot on medium heat. Add enough water to ensure eggs will be covered. Once the water is boiling, add 3 eggs to the water and boil for 7 minutes (6 minutes for more runny eggs). Transfer eggs to ice bath immediately after 7 minutes for soft boiled eggs. Tip: cold eggs from the fridge may crack during boiling. Add them to warm water to temper the eggs before adding to boiling water to prevent cracking.
Transfer eggs to ice bath immediately after 7 minutes of boiling.
  • Step 2. Make butter sauce by melting 2 tablespoons unsalted butter in a pan on medium heat. Once the butter starts to brown (it takes 1-2 minutes), add 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon red chili flakes, and 1/2 teaspoon paprika. Mix continuously and cook for 1 minute. Turn off heat and add 1 tablespoon olive oil and mix well. Let this cool.
after butter is melted, cook the seasonings in the butter for one minute!
  • Step 3. Make yogurt sauce by mixing the following ingredients: 1 cup yogurt, 2 tablespoon ricotta, grated garlic, and salt and pepper. Mix until smooth and set aside.
Add the butter sauce to top of eggs and garlic yogurt for extra flavor!
  • Step 4. Peel eggs and cut in half carefully. To assemble the plate, add a layer of yogurt on a plate. Next, add the eggs on top of the yogurt and drizzle the butter sauce generously on top of yogurt and eggs. Top with dill. Dip the eggs and yogurt with toasted bread for the best result!

My new favorite soup right now 😍Here’s a supe My new favorite soup right now 😍Here’s a super easy and not traditional Korean ox bone soup aka Seolleongtang 설렁탕 🥰 Super hot bone broth is topped with beautifully marbled beef, Chinese chives, green onions, and some salt and pepper to taste. Add some Korean kimchi radish and it’s chef’s kiss!

See blog post for more detail on the ingredients (like which bone broth I bought) and full recipe ◡̈ You gotta use somen noodles for this recipe. It only takes 3 minutes to make. Tip: boil noodles at the same time as the broth to make cooking fast🍜

Wishing you luck, health and prosperity with this Wishing you luck, health and prosperity with this turnip cake recipe aka loh bok go in cantonese. Gung Hey Fat Choy ([恭喜发财] my dumplings! PS. I don’t recommend saying lai see dou loi unless you’re very close to that relative or you are a young child lol

Full recipe is linked in bio or find on my bloggg 🧧🐰

I finally finished testing out this recipe (it’s beeen a few months haha)! I was struggling with the texture for a little while. Now, the recipe is good to go ◡̈  The flavor is very savory from the chinese sausage and cured pork belly (made from my dad!) and also sweet from the radish. The texture is firm but not too doughy because I loaded this up with lots and lots of radish. You will never find a restaurant that has as much radish as this homemade recipe. Lastly, I pan fried the turnip cake to give it a nice crisp at the end.

Don’t forget Chinese New Year is celebrated on the eve (21st of January!) so have a nice dinner with your family on Saturday. Then my mom told me to not clean or do any labor on actual Chinese New Years Day (22nd of January). Wishing all you dumplings good health and wealth in the upcoming year.

This egg drop soup is inspired by my parent’s Ch This egg drop soup is inspired by my parent’s Chinese restaurant 😋Silken tofu is cooked in a sweet chicken broth and cornstarch slurry is added to thicken the soup as well as make the smooth & thick texture.

Some Cantonese restaurants serve this with real crab meat (highly recommend if you have this!) and the color is on the whiter end (hence why we’re using egg whites!). However, if you want to use the whole egg, feel free to use it! The egg yolk makes the soup more yellow and creamy.

You can google ‘cook with dana egg drop soup’ for full recipe or find it in my link in bio! Hope you have a wonderful week my dumplings and can’t wait to show you my Chinese New Year recipes!

Fridge clean out time! 🙃 Crab jeon (omelette) o Fridge clean out time! 🙃 Crab jeon (omelette) or korean seafood pancake is a great recipe to use all your leftover ingredients in the fridge. For groceries, I always use the ‘first in, first out’ method meaning the older groceries need to be used before eating the new stuff. I’m chopping up leftover vegetables and onions in small pieces and mixing them together with imitation crab. The pancake may taste different depending on what ingredients you have but once you mix it with eggs and some flour (especially korean pancake mix!), it will taste scrumptious in it’s own unique way.

The next time you stock up, make sure to keep some type of seafood in the freezer at all times. For me, I tend to buy extra imitation crab and shrimp. Then you will always have good staples to make with your leftover ingredients.

Check link in bio for recipe or google ‘crab jeon dana’ to find full recipe and directions ◡̈ Stay dry california dumplings, there’s lots of rain here haha.

My uncle taught me how to make braised pork over r My uncle taught me how to make braised pork over rice! This dish tastes sweet and savory (similar to teriyaki) which goes so well with rice. The recipe is inspired by Japanese soboro don which is served with scrambled egg, but I think it also reminds me of the Taiwanese dish, Lu rou fan. We cook the ground pork down in some beer to make the meat taste sweeter as well as cut down on the gaminess.

Don’t forget to serve with hot white rice and a sunny side egg to complete the meal. I was intensely writing down the ingredients and instructions so you can make it at home 😉❤️Check it out in my link in bio or google ‘braised pork rice dana’ 🍚

You’re about to eat 2 bowls of rice with this ea You’re about to eat 2 bowls of rice with this easy and delicious mapo tofu! This is spicy, flavorful and a little tingly from the peppercorn oil. This is not an authentic replica of the sichuan mapo tofu but it’s very close. I would say the dish is a combo of sichuan and cantonese flavors 😍
My uncle taught me how to make this and it’s one of my favorite recipes to cook when I don’t have a lot of ingredients in the fridge. Also eating spicy and hot foods when it’s cold outside always makes me happy for some reason. Check full recipe in the blog or link in bio 🥵❤️‍🔥🌶

Sorry y’all for the lighting in the video. It’s cold and gloomy here in California. Hopefully weather gets better and we can have some golden ☀️ shots! Love you all and stay warm dumplings.
